Futures are purchased in advance and will ship or be available for pick up in the first quarter of 2018.
The 2015 Cabernet harvest will be remembered by farmers as the harvest of woe – in 43 years, we have never had lower yields. Tonnages were roughly half what they had been only a year before, in the great and ample vintage of 2014.
But the lot of the farmer and the lot of the winemaker are different. Quantity matters in the wine business, but it’s not the primary concern – quality is. And, while lower yields don’t always mean higher quality, there is a logical connection there.
At Hawkes, for better and worse, we are both farmers and winemakers. Thus, while the 2015 harvest hurt at the time, it’s already in the rear view mirror. What remains, as usual, is the wine.
There may be less (way less) of the 2015 than I’d like, but the wine is, in my totally unbiased opinion, excellent.
Our 2017 Wine Club Futures Galas will be held on the first two Fridays in March (3/3 and 3/10) at Studio Barn Diva in Healdsburg. This is a new, rain-friendly format for our annual gatherings, and I expect it to be embarrassingly lavish. Space is limited so, if you’d like to join us, please register right away.
