The Pyramid is a winemaker’s darling of a vineyard. It is named for its steep and terraced hills. The vineyard is rocky and rugged with spectacular views in every direction. It’s a unique site at the crux of three appellations, where steepness and exposure of the vineyard lead the Pyramid Single Vineyard Cabernet to be dark and intense in every vintage.
The 2014 Pyramid possesses all its hallmarks – deep color, dark fruit aromatics, and dusty tannin. I’d be lying if I said this wine is ready to drink today. Or tomorrow. Or the next day. A freshly opened bottle shows muted dark fruit and brambly character, with a tight mid-body and a firm, even hard finish. Give it fifteen minutes in the glass and the petals open to show plum, blackberry, violet, and black cherry. Drink now with a burnt-rare, dry-aged rib steak and your favorite AC/DC album, drink after 2020 with Miles Davis and your feet up.
