The Stone Vineyard is at the southern border of Alexander Valley, on Chalk Hill Road. It’s where I grew up and where my mother and father first planted grapes in 1971. Cabernet Sauvignon barely existed around here then, but the high-dollar blockbusters this vineyard helped produce—Silver Oak, Cardinale, and Verité—are part of what convinced the winegrowing world that Alexander Valley is one of the best places on the planet to grow Bordeaux varietals.
